It’s no wonder I never listened to the lyrics before. What the hell is this song about? Is this Stills dealing with some serious self-loathing? So I went back and listened again. This time, though, for some reason, when Stills sang, “we never failed to fail / it was the easiest thing to do,” it just hit me. The song has this feeling to it, but I had never listened to the words. Conjures up clear feelings of being at the Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven, going on the Himalaya carnival ride which blasted music all the way to the Municipal Dock, where my parents kept their boat. It’s one of those tunes that always immediately transports me back to my childhood. ![]() This song popped up on shuffle the other day. ![]() Video: Crosby, Stills & Nash – “Southern Cross”
